Summit 5
May 21-22, 2010

DisciplePath Logo
Our last DisciplePath Summit (Summit 5) was held on May 21-22. We had 27 people attend - all of them had taken part in Summits 1, 2, 3 and/or 4).

Recap
Friday: We started Friday night by working through the notes for Module 19, "Foundations Covenant Group Experience." After some brief instruction, we then were led through a "model" small group experience for what we are calling a Discovery group Level Two. A Discovery group is a small group that meets for a limited time specifically to bring people through the Come and See phase of discipleship - either helping people See Jesus to come to salvation (Level One) or helping those who have come to salvation to understand the foundations of Christian belief (Level Two).

Saturday: We spent Saturday going through Modules 20-25: "Discipleship and Evangelism," "Lifestyle Evangelism," "People Tools," "Emotional Barrier," "Intellectual Barrier" and "Volitional Barrier." We spent a lot of the time looking at the elements of a 3-D strategy for evangelism in our church as well as the barriers that exist for believers in sharing the gospel and unbelievers in accepting the gospel.

Important Principles to understand and remember
1.) A Level Two Discovery Group is focused on grounding an individual in the foundational truths of Christianity.

2.) Our goal is to get at least 60-70% of the congregation into a Discipleship Group.

3.) The believer's barriers are just that, in most cases they are our barriers that we erect or hide behind or stumble over.

4.) The four key principles to evangelism are it is a process, God is responsible for the results, understand the unbeliever's barriers, and being with one.

5.) We all have a relational network that includes biological, vocational, geographical and recreational elements.

6.) An emotional barrier to Christianity is usually formed based on perceived legalism or hypocrisy.

7.) The greatest consequence of an intellectual barrier to Christianity is indifference.

8.) The greatest "weapon" against the volitional barrier is prayer.
